Description

Tempranillo, which means “early little one” for its penchant for early ripening is the leading red grape in Spain, where it is called by many names according to where it’s grown. It is most distinguished as the main grape of Rioja and Ribera del Duero, where, particularly in the higher altitude vineyard locations, it produces elegant, age-worthy wines.

Our Estate Tempranillo is planted in two blocks on slate and decomposed granite soils at an average elevation of 2,650 ft. Every vintage this varietal impresses us with its immense structure, complex aromatics and depth of flavor.

Tempranillo is known for bold flavors and textures and the 2019 surely lives up to this standard. We chose to bottle our 2019 Tempranillo earlier than most years to capture its incredible aromatics and fruit character. This wine is delightfully fruit driven with rich and smooth mouthfeel. Fruits of plum and cherry are accented with tobacco and earthy flavors. While this wine is delicious to open now, it will age in bottle for many years.

This wine is especially good when paired with Spanish cuisine such as Jamon Iberico, grilled lamb with rosemary, wild boar stew with porcini mushrooms or a well-aged Manchego.
